What You Don't See: Listening to the Political Fears That Divide Us

What You Don't See: Listening to the Political Fears That Divide Us
The fears that divide the city and the field.

Six years ago, I moved to Nashville from San Francisco. I have great friends in SF, and I met great friends in Nashville. What struck me is how such great people could be so divided, especially when it came to politics.

So for 6 years, I just listened and took notes. I listened to my good friends in SF and my good friends in Nashville. Some democrats, some republicans. All good humans.

What struck me is that when I really listened, they all sounded the same, wanting the same thing. But they couldn't hear that at all from each other.

Despite being so divided, I think I discovered that if we really listen, we can understand we are more alike than we believe. We can gain a deeper understanding of what drives our beliefs.

I've been writing my thoughts in a single Apple Note for six years, and I used that note to create this podcast using AI. It's unbelievable to me how good this conversation is, from just a raw note on my phone to a whole discussion explaining my thoughts.

Let me know what you think. Here's the AI summary and podcast links below to listen.

This podcast uncovers the unseen fears that truly drive our political divides. Beyond surface arguments, we reveal that "voting is just based on our greatest fears". In a world of digital silos where "we hate what the other side ignores [or doesn’t even see]", discover why people aren't evil, but often "just really scared."
